Shouldn't use 80 minute tapes?

I just bought a 100A and as this is my first digital video camera I was thoroughly reading the manual when I noticed on page 23 it states "Do not use 80-minute mini DV cassette tapes."

Anyone know why not?

Re: Shouldn't use 80 minute tapes?

...probably causes too much head wear.. or too much drag on the tape mechanisms or somthing.. but really. why ask why.
your in the garden of eden and you've been told not to eat from one little tree.

Re: Shouldn't use 80 minute tapes?

Not only that, but it is also important to use the Panasonic dry lube MQ tapes.

Re: Shouldn't use 80 minute tapes?

because the tape is thinner, and because it is thinner it flakes more easy, and those flakes of metal are not good running through the camera.. also, for the same reason, your chance of getting dropouts go up about 300%.

Re: Shouldn't use 80 minute tapes?

How come my DVX came with a ay-dvm60EJ tape if I'm supposed to use the MQ?

Re: Shouldn't use 80 minute tapes?

I don't believe mine came with a tape at all, just the head cleaning tape.

And the manual doesn't specify MQ's, it just specifies AY-DVM series. However, I (and others) strongly recommend sticking to AY-DVM60MQ's.

Re: Shouldn't use 80 minute tapes?

I think I remember reading that the DVX100A's come with a free MiniDV tape. The DVX100P only came with the cleaning tape.

Re: Shouldn't use 80 minute tapes?

DVX100A come with a free MiniDV tape DVM63 ME. Not a cleaning tape.

Re: Shouldn't use 80 minute tapes?

thats retarded.. the cleaning tape is a way better inclusion. giving a tape that you probally dont have stock of is just asking for trouble.
