Shoulder Rigs and More RedRock Micro

Hello Listers,

So I purchased a used bag o bones RR-Micro shoulder rig kit. I got a lot of stuff but need to fill in a few things to make it work and want to make it shoulder and or tripod ready.

Question: Are the spacings on the rods universal? Will any 15mm rod accessories fit the framework of a RRMicro base kit? If so, who else besides RRMicro branded stuff would be a good source of misc widgets?

TIA

15mm rail systems are pretty much universal* with rod diameter and spacing. Which pieces are you looking for?

There are plenty of brands out there that are sources of odds and ends, but some of them can be a little hit and miss. The biggest thing for me in assembling a frankenrig is that so many of the makes have different color schemes on the hardware (tightening nuts, especially) that it can spoil the aesthetic... if that's something you're concerned about at all. But look at parts from Jag35, Kamerar, Lanparte.

*Some of the really cheap off-brands can sometimes have fitting issues. Clamps may not tighten completely, rods may be slightly mismatched and off-size. It's a more minimized risk these days than it was a few years ago, but be cautious with the uber-cheap-o stuff.

Thanks for the info.

I'm starting to assemble different scenarios both for tripod mounting and a shoulder rig. So far, I'm finding out how much I don't know, but am trying different assembly schemes. This is like Legos run amok; so many variants possible. There is a fair amount of used stuff on eBay, so I'll be trying to keep the cost on the lowdown.
