Shoulder Rig

I use a Tilta rig for my F3, and it's absolutely necessary for me. It has a balancing advantage over some others when it comes to switching back and forth from tripod to shoulder, provided that you have a sony, panasonic, or JVC v-lock quick release plate. Lanparte makes the same thing, if you can't find Tilta.

I also have a Tilta… one thing you have to know about them, is that they are still so early in their progress that you can buy something now and in a year, you wont be able to get spare parts because they have moved on since then. I have that problem with my rig. But I found a way around it. It just means that I can't use the off-set part anymore and have to use a monitor for framing and focusing on the 5D.

But I think their newer models are better…. at least I hope so. The tapped sockets in the parts in my rig are a bit weak. But nevertheless I like the look of Tiltas rigs, and the fact that you can get their magic arms off in two secs if you need to remove the monitor or whatever.

I have a Gliders shoulder rig from India.

Huge difference compared to hand held.

As I recall it was less than $200.

See it in the profile picture.

I looked at the Tilta and are really nice!!!! But at the moment they are ouch in the pocket book I need something really cheap for now. Any other ideas? I will check the the glider. Thanks

Looks like Thecinecity no longer makes the "Gliders. Grey" but check out Philip Blooms "Shoulder Mounts- which one".

The first one he reviews looks similar- but the price is now $500 +

Ok I've had some really expensive shoulder mounts and never liked any of them (Vocas etc). I want the kit small, light and useable. So this is what I've got. For DSLR's I have to have a EVF to get the weight back (there are some cheap ones now) then a simple shoulder pad with quick release and finally some sort of grip. There are lots on ebay for $50ish. I use a single diving light arm and my right hand is on the lens for focus and zoom.
Perhaps not for everyone but other than the EVF its about $75 in parts.

My 2 bits

Just looking at the picture the shoulder pad should be under the camera (put it together for the shot)
