We use the 3066 (now the 516) for incredibly smooth pans and tilts. It is perfectly balanced for cameras around 10 lbs. - so an HVX with accessories fits it's embedded, fixed counterbalance nicely. We've bought one of the 3066 on eBay for about $260 with the tall Manfrotto tripod pictured and have had no problems in almost two years of use.
If you want to change the counterbalance springs, the upgrade would be 519. You can get the 3066 above with the 100mm bowl (industry standard) and upgrade the head to a 519 or Sachtler or Vinten that will use the same bowl later.
Buy a great head used at the same price of a poor one new.
If the RedRock Micro 15mm iris rods extend out the back of the bridge plate, then they would work. The Cavision is set up to 60mm on-center, so 100mm spaced rods would need an adapter, but I believe the RRM is 60mm.
Hey, didn't really want to make a new thread, so i searched up an old one. For the people using spiderbraces, do you find it easy to zoom and focus, or is a remote control necessary.
I use the Freezi stable cam. Its the only one i've ever used besides putting a tripod on my shoulder, which was kinda a pain. Does anyone else use the Freezi??
http://www.frezzi.com/mini-hd_dv_camera_support.htm it came with the DVX i bought on eBay. probably wouldn't have spent that much on a shoulder mount if it hadnt. B&H sells for around $360. IMO i think its way over priced. It seems like a good mount but for that much i'd want something a little smoother. Like i said, its the only support i've ever owned so its hard to compare.
