I'm wondering if people have experience using shoulder mounts - if so, what are recommended styles/brands on the lower price range?
Thanks!

Seems lots of people like the spiderbrace, seems its pretty workable. How does it go with rails, mattebox etc etc?

i dont have a mattbox or rails but ive seen ppl with pics who use them with the sb2 and they seem to work.
although i have done some pretty neat rerigging with mine

Im using the same as KHmuse. bilgami the pistol grips and shoulder mount just attach to the rods. The tripod plate attaches to the base plate. You can keep it on and just pull it on and off all day.

ive had my eye on that shoulder mount the reason i havent switched is cuz i configured to where i have a tripod plate on the bottom of the sb2 and my cam and brace all go on the tripod and i was hoping i could do the same to another shoulder brace if need be.

Can you put a tripod plate underneath so the whole thing cam and brace go on a tripod?

Yep, that is how mine is set up. I can mount the camera to the rig and then drop it on the sticks in a matter of seconds.

Its a pretty slick configuration.

I too use the Cavision Shoulder Pad (two handles) with my DVX100BE and I am very happy with it. The only hassle is actually attaching the camera-plus-shouldermount quickly to the tripod (Sachtler DV) since the handgrips interfere with the sliding. I consider this a very minor problem however. In the end, I appear to now be able to actually hold a steady shot of an "interviewee" for more that ten minutes. And I am not a muscular person. So, I am perfectly satisfied with the Cavision shoulder pad.

i just shot the texas bowl here at reliant stadium in houston TX with a cavision shoulder mount on my hvx - i HATED it! i cant really say anything positive about it other than it looks kinda cool

thefOx,

Do you already have a 15mm x 60mm iris rod system? We have the Cavision HVX / XLH1 Bundle that includes everything (base plate, 10" iris rods, mattebox, shoulder pod, dual handgrips, follow-focus et-cetera).

Of course, the individual components are available individually.

spider brace and cavision are nice but the real thing is a rig with a spring loaded support stick like the dvrig and multirig, otherwise you have to carry all the weight with your arms.

I also use the spiderbrace. Not bad, but it´s true, take care of your arms if you shoot longer than 10min. Another frustrating thing, I can´t use it together with my cavision rod support system. Hope that helps.
