Shoulder Mount

Another option is the steady stick.

That's the best price you'll see on it anywhere. The handle works as a shouldermount and you also get the benfit of taking the weight off you're arms.

I'm also interested in investing in a shoulder mount.
I really like the price of the Stinger, but am wondering how it compares to something like the spiderbrace.
Which do you think is the best buy?

i think it's all preference. i've only used the spiderbrace so i cant speak for the others. i'm happy with my purchase. it's been a big help.

As myself and others on this board have discovered. There's only one choice for a jack of all trades camera support.

The DVMulti Rig! It rocks!

It's much more expensive than a Spiderbrace, Steadystick, Stinger and such.
But it's also much, much more than all of them combined.

I own 2. I have a three camera setup. I use the shoulder mount for my 100 and 100a. My third cam is a 100b that I use a M2 adapter that is too big for such a small mount. My setup works out great for me. I'm thinking about buying a glide cam vest very soon. Is there one that anyone recommends.

I have the spiderbrace with a 5lb handweight duct taped to the back of it as a counter balance cuz its very front heavy when the cam is mounted.... in fact, mine is pretty much covered in duct tape for re-inforcement, cuz it gets a little weakened and flimsy after heavy use/abuse

its hardly even recognizable as a spiderbrace but its rules! and they are cheap

just buy a few rolls of duct/gaff tape

It looks great but a bit pricy. These mount rigs are too easy to build for me to be paying over $300.00 for them. Just my opinion.

Trust me it's easily worth $300-400. If you are just using the Spiderbrace and no 2 section support pod with it, then the units won't even compare to each other.

NO offense, as I don't know how skilled a metal craftsman you are.

But I doubt that you could built a unit this light, and well crafted for under $300 yourself. If you can, then why are you still using the Spiderbrace, because there's no comparison between the two, except for price?

And before anyone jumps on me, I have tried the Spiderbrace, it is well made and inexpensive, but bot nearly as versitile as the DVMulti. Flying the Multi in pod supported handheld or Fig Rig mode is mych smoother and staedier than any shoulder mode support.

I could shoot in shoulder mode with the MultiRig if I wanted. But I don't because getting the camera off of my shoulder and using the support pod reduces body vibration considerably.

I've tried those support stems (used the one from Varizoom), and found them cumbersom. I guess it depends upon the type of shooting you do. For long shots like events/performances, I can see how they would be nice. I do mostly features and music videos, and the takes are rarely longer than 2-3 minutes. It those situations the support stem gets in the way of moving the camera fluidly with tilts and crouching and such. I use the shoulder mount from CaVision and have been very happy.
