Shoulder Mount

You need a rig that puts as much of the camera weight above your shoulder as possible, otherwise you will get very tired fast. You will need a rig that you can put substantial counterweights on the back.

i use a pre-production version of this;

with a rear plate to hold a BMD recorder and a Swit Vlok batt, it balances very well, requires no re-rigging to go from bag to shoulder to sticks and back again;

low profile means the nodal point is closer to your shoulder for less rotation when you move, and it sits flat on surface like a table or a camera case to make the poor man's HiHat shots easy to get, built in shoulder pad

I have Caleb's top handle as well, the total cost is below the options you linked to....

Both are first class kit, feel like they would belong on an 535

I've shopped around quite a bit, and I really like that setup.

What is the source of the extension plate for the battery/external recorder? Is that their PMW350 nano bracket turned upside down?

I used the Micro mount this week for 3 days...... two things I dislike about it is the handles that aren't that great being able to twist around the rods unless you tighten them unreasonably hard. No piece of acc. including stands should need excessive tightening to work.

The base plate area is too small imo, feels like the torc from the weight of the camera in both ends would put too much stress on the mounting holes in the camera. So I decided, to mount my camera first on my shoot35 baseplate and then mount the baseplate on the Micro rig.

I would go for Tilta instead hands down. Just got their front handles and man are they tough! Triple rosettes and finger tight rod mounting.... A+ from me!

Tilta, RedRock & Shape all offer zero support for the lens mount, transfering all the torque from a FF hitting the bump stops onto 3 tiny screws in the camera body, it will trash the camera's lens mount... really the only question is when & how long Sony will keep it in the repair shop

the Westside mount does tie the adpt to the baseplate making the force go there and not to the camera's lens mount.. the Glider looks like the front slot is long enough to use, at least there's something there to machine a slot longer... Carlos Acosta makes a really good one too...

the only one i would consider if the Westside was not avb is the Glider or Carlos Acosta's baseplate

Just buy a lens support on the side? Or a third party mount with support for your non Sony lenses... Don't see the issue.

there's little sideways support with the single stick under lens, Carlos offers a hard front, Westside offer a metabonbones support that covers sideways torque, and the Sony adpts have wide flat baseplates as well, as long as they have somewhere dead solid to attach to

There is a diffrence with most lens support, something like what i had on my Angenieux 10-1 - U shaped bottom bracket, clamp on top, and two side posts would fit inside my comfort zone.. PITA to change lenses tho...

But why workarounds when you can just get it right from the get go?
