Shoulder Mount for DVX/HVX and DSLR?

I want to buy a shoulder mount/ support system that will work for both a dvx/hvx, and a dslr.

I've looked all over the net, and I can't seem to make up my mind. I like the Redrock shoulder mount, but I've heard it's very uncomfortable. How bad is it? Also, how much would I have to spend in order to offset the camera so I could see the DSLR screen? I've also heard it takes FOREVER to get your stuff from Redrock.

For me it's down to the Redrock shoulder mount, the DV Multirig, and the DVrig Pro Extreme.

What I don't like about the dvrig products, is the fact that they're not modular. I know I can add a monitor and stuff to the Multirig, but it just doesn't seem set up for adding accessories.

And while the DVrig Pro Extreme does have rods, they seem small, and only good for a follow focus on a DSLR.

I need a shoulder mount/ support system that will be good for BOTH a DVX/HVX and a DSLR. I'm not going to be adding too many accessories, but I would like to have the potential for some upgrades.

Can you guys please help me decide? Or if you have another option, let me know?
I'd appreciate some help.

I shoot 7D and XH A1 on this setup, i use the DSLR baseplate for my 7, and the rodmount on the shoulder pad for my XH A1. I find it comfortable and have shot about 3 hours constant on it.

Another redrock option is the eyeSpy line(http://store.redrockmicro.com/Catalog/DSLR-Shoulder-Mounted-Rigs/eyeSpy-Deluxe-Bundle-DSLR-rig) ; this is better for people who don't want to drop money on a monitor and just want to use a z-finder or lcdvf. You can actually turn the offset upside down so that it is angled down, and the eyepeice of your HVX will fit there, but you'll need to buy this, http://store.redrockmicro.com/Catalog/microShoulderMountClamps/microShoulderMount-Rod-Clamp , to mount the HVX/DVX

and of course, you can buy one, and always build the other one with a little extra money
Note: i do suggest to get the vertical weights on the eyeSpy so that you can left right adjust the counterbalance when you throw the DVX/HVX on

Thousands of dollars for some pieces of metal, lol ........... Crazy out of this world over priced, the most I would spend on something is $500 and that's pushing it.

Hey,

I have a rig that is part redrock, part other kit. As for the Redrock shoulder mount, it is super comfortable, in fact it is the most comfortable of the ones I have used. As for shipping time, I live in Australia, pretty much the furthest they ship and the turnaround time wasnt too bad. Here is a clip of my original rig http://vimeo.com/7306588
I have since rebuilt it using the CPM FilmTools Cage, http://www.cpmfilmtools.com/
The CPM cage is awesome, it allows you to use a handle, the best I've found, so you can throw your camera around and grab it easily. The added bonus of the cage is you can mount things on it, I have a mount for my LCDVF to suplement the useless magnets, you can mount lights, mics etc on the top and side, and as an added bonus Steve at CPM is amazingly helpful and turnaround times are excellent.

Wow, I'm liking that setup. It's more pricy than i'd like, but it seems I could start out with just the redrock mount, and add stuff as I go. I had no idea you could rig up the DVrig support rod to it.

How exactly did you do this? It seems if I did that, I'd have just what I was looking for :)

if by DVrig support rod you mean that spring loaded belt system, I've seen it done before yeah. They basically removed the screw under the handlebar rod clamp and replaced it with something compatible with the DVrig spring system. I'm trying to find the guys card who did it

It was surprisingly simple, just used a Cinevate rail mount block I had laying around, and mounted a spring in the centre hole with some rubber tubing over it to stop the spring bending too far. (excuse the bad photos, the iphones camera is terrible)

I have used the cinevate shoulder mount as an attachment to the redrock rails and it worked great. The shoulder mount part is $400 and pretty comfortable.
I have also liked working with the DVTEC multi rig. The little support bar that goes to your waist is a nice feature.

I recently looked into the glidecam smooth shooter vest and arm as an alternative to a shoulder mount set up. Havent made a decision yet.
