Should I...

Alright I'm pretty sold on getting a D90 but I'm interested to hear what more experienced people think of the practicalities behind my intended use for the camera.

I'm in a sketch comedy group here in Cleveland called Nuclear Corn Jacket. www.nuclearcornjacket.com

Another member of the group has a DVX100B which works great, however he plans to move in the near future and I wanted to purchase a DVX of my own but I can't really afford one.

Then I heard about the D90. I have a D80 that I use for my amateur photo hobby that I could sell to put towards the purchase of a D90, which would make it much more appealing and affordable to me.

I want a camera for future comedy videos as well as shooting music videos, shorts and even a feature.

Does the D90 seem like the right choice?

If you plan to shoot only in tripods and to use an external sound capture, it works

Apart the sound problem, the workflow is fast and easy, easier than a HVX or the tiresome DV tapes

Yeah we'd only use it with a tripod or a slow moving steadicam.

so a slow moving steadicam or a dolly is okay? or does it have to be nailed-down-static?
i'm saving up for this camera too, just for simple home-made film experiments...

Use the d90 for everything you want. with the LEE FIX, you can do everything without worries.

if youre good, you will still be as good with the d90

I ac'd in a film shot exclusively on the DVX100A a while ago, it was very sucessful. But considering the technology today and the time until the thing is ready to distribution I'd say you will need an HD camera more in the lines of the HVX200 or the EX1 for that, otherwise you're shooting yourself in the foot.

Well then ruling out a feature, does the D90 seem like a valid low cost option for shorts and music videos?

don't confuse the guy

EX1: $6500
HVX: $5199
Mini35: $2500

He should spend all his money available on audio for the audience to get the jokes, he would have to buy mics for both cameras you mentioned anyway

As I see, if you don't have a contract to make a feature, don't spend $10000 dollars on gear, but $1000

And if you have a contract, just rent what is needed
