Should I wait until Black Friday to purchase a DSLR?

Hey guys.

I used to have a canon EOS 550D but had to sell it unfortunately due to bills. But I'm looking for another DSLR to buy right now. I was looking at the Nikon D3100. It's only $546.00 on amazon with an 18-55mm lens.

However, I'm thinking about waiting until black friday to purchase a DSLR. It's only a month away, but I'm wondering have DSLRs been discounted well past black fridays? Is it worth it to wait or should I just buy a camera right now?

thanks.

Personally if you cannot afford a Dslr and not make money off of it and then sell it, you need to just hold onto your money. IMHO this art form requires time and money and if someone cannot do that, then there is no point. There has NEVER been video capable cameras this cheap and I believe how much dslr pushed this industry forward it has also killed it by everyone buying them and over saturating this market.

$00.02

I did not ask on advice on how to handle my finances, can someone just answer my question??

EDIT: I was in a position where I was unemployed and I had to sell a lot of things just to catch up on my bills. My T2i was one of the last things I wanted to sell, but I had to sell it. You ever heard of the saying "you gotta do what you gotta do". I now have two jobs and can rake up for some filming equipment. I'm just wondering if there are some really good deals on Black Friday maybe I should wait on, simple enough?

Note, I was into video before DSLRS came out, I"m not some bandwagoner that's been on the DSLR hype, okay?

You don't have to make money off of a camera to own one lol. What happened to people being hobbyists and just wanting to shoot video and take pictures? To answer your question tho I don't think I remember DSLRs being discounted during black friday but I could be wrong. Since it isn't a long wait until then I would just wait and see for sure tho then make your purchase. Honestly tho you'd probably get a better price getting a new camera off of ebay than getting it from a retail store.

you asked about black friday sales. so yes. "how to handle my finances" was implied by the nature of the question.

to directly answer your question. i dont recall ever seeing "black friday" type sales applying to anything other than "consumer-level" stuff. of which arguably a t2i / D3100 MIGHT fall into. so... if you CAN wait. wait. if you have something that needs shooting now. buy now.

if sitting on your thumbs for 4 weeks for the possibility of a $200 or so savings is going to be your tipping point. refer back to our money management points above. (i joke)

but honestly, id be less concerned with possible sale prices than i would with possible end of year camera technology announcements...

+1

Also My post was never meant as disrespect, only the honest truth. If you are not making money or have problems financially the last thing you should think about is buying a camera, especially if you don't make money from it/ If you have two jobs and are doing better then in my mind $$ should not be an issue.

You can find a t2i camera for $400-$500 .... Everyone goes through hardships, you should be financially good imo before buying another camera.

$00.03

i just purchased a Canon T3i with an 18-55mm lens for 784.00. the reason i bought now is during the holiday season is a great time to make money at parties. i'm hoping my T3i is paid for by New Year's. the pix are outstanding and the video is so much better in low light than my HVX200. so right now i'm armed with an HVX200 and a Canon T3i.....
