i just purchased a dvx100b, and i was thinking of using a sony handycam as my dv deck... is this a good idea, i've heard it's not so good to mix sony and panasonic tapes in cameras for recording, but does it matter for playback... will it affect the quality and life of the master tapes...
thanks!

it wont efect quality, wont efect frame rate, wont effect widescreen..........and yes its perfeclty fine to capture in it, if you do record back and foruth, make sure u run a head clean thru your dvx, cuz the residue of the tape can damage it, but ya ur fine man, i use a canon to capture my footage

I use my old TRV900 (ah, memories...) for capture and playback these days, but because I've still not exhausted my huge pile of Sony tapes from back then, and because Sony tapes are everywhere and you can't just go to Target and pick up a bunch of Panasonic tapes, I just use Sony tapes for everything.

So while Panasonic tapes may be better (and only slightly, if at all), at least I'm consistent. Plus, once the tapes leave my DVX after shooting, they never go back into it.

The only thing you have to worry about is tape consistency. And you should clean your tape heads before switching brands on either cam.

So basically I could purchase a minidv camcorder from tiger direct for $250 bucks and use that as my dv deck to send info to computer. ??
Right now I am using my dvx100b and I know its not good for it. right?

thanks

thanks

for the replies... i can rest easier now that i know it's alright to use my sony handycam as a dv deck... i will make sure to clean the heads of it since i'm only going to be using panasonic tapes in them from now on from the dvx100b... can't wait to get going on this newly acquired toy... this forum rocks! been checking out the posts on hardware, etc...
