Should I use my 702 with our EX1

So we recently got an EX1 (been using DSLRs) for longer form and situations where shallow DOF is not needed or beneficial. I first should say that it's really nice working with a "REAL" camera again. After working with DSLRs for so long its been nice :)

Our only struggle seems to be the audio. We normally boom a 416 and use a DPA lav for our interview shoots and it doesn't seem like I can get the audio to the right levels and they seam lower in post than I would expect.

I have read some of the posts for audio and will try out the suggestions.

However... We have a SD 702 and I was wondering if it would be worth it to run into that first and use it sort of like a mixer (and backup audio if needed I guess) and then out of that and line into the EX1. Would it increase the audio quality at all? I don't mind the setup since when audio more critical we normally have a separate operator.

Any input would be appreciated before I drop the $100 on making a dual TA3 to XLR break away cable.

Also we maybe getting an EX3 and would anything we do with the EX1 need to be applied to that camera as well?

Thanks.

1. set the gain control to "manual" using the switches on the back

2. put the actual level knobs at five and a half, and never touch them again. In fact, tape them there

3. set your levels properly by going into the audio menu, and setting the mic trim, so your peaks peak around two to three segments below red on the EX's audio meter

If you do this any other way you are adjusting gain at the wrong stage and as you noted, it will sound like poop. As nice as the 702 is, there's no reason to introduce a whole other piece of gear and step in recording. As anyone here will tell you, when set up properly, the EX series has some of the best audio circuitry around
