Should I shoot in 24p if the final output is 29.97?

I recently uploaded a 24 p video to Youtube and it looked horrible. As best I can figure, Youtube looks best on 29.97 videos. Before I figured out about special pulldown menus, I had been shooting in 24p, but editing and outputting in 29.97. It looks pretty good on Youtube, but it seems like there are a few stutters every so often.

Now I'm thinking that if I'm outputting in 29.97, it makes the most sense to shoot in 29.97. Is this correct?

(I use Final Cut Pro 6.06.)

Thanks!

Depends on what you want the motion to look like. If you want it to look like 24p, then shoot (and edit as) 24p.

YouTube accepts 23.976 just fine. There is no need to feed it 30p. If you shoot 24p and convert it to 30p, you'll see stutters and ghosting, just like you're saying.
