The chair of my department in undergraduate school once scolded me when I expressed an interest in Art Direction and design: You're to young to know where you're going! You have no idea what you really want to do!

When I go back for homecoming I make sure to sit in on his class. Wearing a crew jacket.

That's awesome.

One of my best friend's spent a few years at Central Washington University, and took one of the music classes to fulfill one of the pre-reqs. If I remember the story right, the Dean of the department taught the class and would tell of a young applicant to the music department that they turned away because of his lack of musical talent.

This applicant was Slash... as in Guns 'n Roses Slash.

Needless to say, once G'N'R got huge, Slash wrote the Dean a profanity laden tirade of a letter basically saying neener neener, look at me now. The Dean kept the letter, as he found the whole scenario so amusing.
