Given that the ex1r is going too be $6300 should i go ahead and pre order it in fear of selling out or should i just wait for the release date? I not really in a hurry, although, I will start using it in mid January.

thanks in advance.

And, be aware, pre-ordering is definitely no guarantee that you WILL get one in January either!

If you really need it in January, and the EX1R is what you want, then ... heck, it's already mid-November, why not pre-order it now?

I remember someone mentioning that the first run model of the ex1 had problems. The ex1r souldnt have any problems correct? considering its a upgraded version of the ex1.

The EX1 was perhaps the most plagued Sony launch I've ever seen. Sony has traditionally had very smooth product rollouts, from what I recall. The EX1 was abnormally troubled.

None of that really tells us anything about how the EX1R launch will go. You're always safer to wait as long as you can. But if you need it, what does it matter? It's not like you could wait for the foibles to be ironed out, right? And, presuming you're putting it to work right away, whatever revenues you can get should go a ways towards ironing over any bumps in the launch.

Now till mid Jan is about 50 days... Anything can happen during this time. Scarlet might be out too. If you need it then, and they don't have one for you and you must have it, you can always rent one for the shoot. I'm pretty sure rental house would have one for you.

Who knows, a new version of a DSLR might be out , and it has a XLR out put with more then 1 hour record time, full frame, maybe even multi frame rate.

I remembered in 50 days, I moved within 3 continent all without expecting it.

Future is blind my friend...

Out of curiosity, what was so bad about the EX1 launch?

I remember talking to the Japanese Sony engineer at IBC back in 2007, he said to me, " we just got this from Japan, I came with it. We rush it to make it for the IBC , almost didn't make it".
Hence the Paint job, vignetting , battery problems, IR red issues

Well as for the EX1R, They announce it three months before , They must have learned , or did they?
