Should i buy this dvx100b?

I am concerned about the customs too. I figure the taxes could be in the couple hundred $ range. I ordered a guitar from the states about 1 1/2 years ago for around $100 and the customs was in the neighbourhood of $30 if I'm not mistaken.

So if you figure $100 got a 30% tax rate, a $2600 camera should run us....a lot.

That $30 may be a flat customs fee. When I have purchased stuff on Ebay in the past, anything over 20 bucks or so is subject to a fee, and there are a few forms that are filled out and forwarded to you.

Still, the extra grand (plus the 14% tax here) could be used to funding a trip to New York and picking up the camera. You'd still come out ahead, so the fun of airport searches, border crossings and general paranoia is basically free.

Aren't out of state residents entitled to a tax rebate on stuff they purchase in NY state if the follow the correct procedures? Didn't Michael J. Fox teach us that in For Love Or Money? (Man, I know I shouldn't love that film, but....)

i actually just placed an order with their sister company (shopsunshine) for the package with the hardcase and 3 filters. i'm going to call in my payment information on sunday.

some people on this forum get all up in arms about buying gray market dvx's (which this is), but if you evaluate the risks, it's a pretty good deal. they seem to REALLY care about their ratings on resellerratings so use that to your advantage if things go wrong.

the main complaint i've read about them is that they try pretty hard to upsell you. i have to yet to deal with that since i haven't called in yet, but i guess you have to stand firm. i'll keep you guys updated on what's going on.

Just wondering if you've gotten your camera yet. I think we both ordered on the same day and I have not gotten mine yet. When I called last week to ask what the deal was, they told me that they were ordering it from Panasonic and then overnighting it to me and would give me a tracking number once it got to them. Today I called to follow up and they said that Panasonic was shipping direct to me and that Panasonic would be sending me an email with tracking. Of course, a bunch of the stuff in their package is not Panasonic such as the cases and whatnot, so I am very unnerved about all of this.

There is no duty bringing a camera into canada, just pst + gst. However, if it is shipped UPS, they will charge you a big brokerage fee to bring it through customs!
