Friend of mine wants to sell cheap M BOX.

What is this? Pro Tools? I am asking cos I am doing my audio on Vegas but soon will have midi keyboard and maybe this M Box is more advanced than Audio tools in Vegas...

This M BOx comes with a software ....

Can anybody thell me if it is worth buying it if I want to make my own soundtack for my features? And if it gives me more than Vegas?

Thanks,

Voytek

Re: Should I buy cheap Mbox pro tools?

I have an Mbox and love it. It comes with Protools LE which is great (but limited to 32 mono or 16 stereo tracks I believe). The other versions of Protools have more tracks and can do processing of pluggins on the fly.

The midi tools on Protools suck, however. If you want to do a lot of midi stuff, you're better off with some other program. It's fine for very simple midi stuff. But Protools strengths lie in its audio. It's a pro program used for mixing and editing.

What Mbox gives you is high quality audio ins and outs. Note that to use Protools LE you must have your mbox plugged in. You can plug in microphones or instruments, etc and record to your computer getting high quality sound. Mbox attaches to your computer via USB.

I have a mac so I can't tell you how much better the audio is than Vegas. But it's probably significantly better. However there is a learning curve. Since it's a pro program, it will take a while to use effectively. And if you're doing a lot of midi stuff, like lots of keyboards tracks, you might check out something more suited for midi.

I use mine mostly for mixing audio and my own bad temp music. I don't regret buying it, and I don't even use it that much.

Re: Should I buy cheap Mbox pro tools?

I bought one for a friend a month ago and it was about $430 from Full Compass... you should also find out how old it is, there is a whole suite of other software that comes with it, including Reason, Live,SampleTank, and some other software/plugins. The Mbox is basicly a breakout box to get audio into your computer, people use it for many things including home recording set ups/ recording bands live/recording audio for film/video. It is very well known(in this price range) for it's pre-amps, the inputs are XLR / 1/4" combo connector, S/PDIF I/O (24-bit) and RCA jacks.
.. But ProTools is the software you use for mixing/recording whatever audio you bring in. Check on digidesigns site to make sure you have a computer that will run it..www.digidesign.com
