A friend of mine is selling his old DVX100. Should I buy it? I'm not sure of the price yet. What would be a good price to buy at? Or should I buy a DVX100A for a little more. I just graduated the military videography course and I'm looking for a good starter camera. We had to use the XL1S. I'm thinking about doing some weddings.
Also, If I do buy a new DVX100A or B, where is a good place to purchase one at? I have seen a lot of different prices. One site had the "B" for $300 cheaper then the "A".

YES BUY ONE! If you are just starting out, I would suggest buying your friend's camera. If you like enough then go for a new or more expensive one.

I'm in the exact same boat as you. I was waiting to buy a friends 100 or this 100a and it fell through. After looking into it I'm 100% sure I will be buying a DVX100b here in a few days. I would figure out what exactly you want to shoot with the camera and what little variations work best for your projects.

Good luck.

Well, the only way to know if you should get the used one or the new one is by telling us the price of the used one. If he's selling it for $1500 then definitely go for the used DVX and spend the rest on microphones and other accessories. But if it's only a $200 difference between the two, then the new one will give you more features and a warranty.

So, how much does he want for the used DVX? I have the original DVX100 (not A or B) and it's fantastic. But I'd love to have the goodies that come with the B version, too...

Find out how many hours its ben used for first. Last thing you want to do is buy it and get a few hours use before it needs a service. thats my advice but then Im buying a DVX-102BE shortly.

If you buy a new one, do some searches on this site about "authorized dealers." Don't get sucked in by a cheap price and get stuck with a grey market camera.

play hours and price

play hours and price

As far as the play on the heads, What is an acceptable amount? At what point does hour make a difference in the price?
Also what is the typical life span of the camera in hours?
