Shots of Egypt

Great footage. I'm looking forward to the rest. What film mode settings are you using? I've been getting good results with Smooth Mode, Contrast 0, Sharpness +2, Saturation 0, and NR 0. But, it's always fun to know what others are trying out.

Thanks adamsterner... I am learning as I go! :)

I really wanted to capture the blue of the sky in Egypt (as they are rare in Canada) so I shot with vivid settings the whole trip... I did some colour correction afterward but just very minor adjustments. Mostly just brightness and a little contrast here and there. I will try your settings out as well!

Thanks again...

If you do make it..

I go to Egypt most years if I can.:love4: Cairo..nothing quite like it...anywhere (find a nice taxi driver and get a days tour from a locals perspective and be sure to ask for a tour of the city of the dead). Luxor is a must, the temple at Medinet habu at sunset is the definition of the golden hour...If you can get to Alexandria the Greek/roman tombs with medusa....

I can be a real bore about this country...now cheap flights anyone?

Good advice... I also highly recommend Aswan, Abu Simbel, White desert and Mount Sinai if you get the chance. Most of those appear in the second part... Coming soon!

Thanks for watching!

Loved the footage.... I notice you like that canon fd 50mm.... What adapter did you get, where, and how much? I plan on getting this camera, and I already have this lens. Dying to to attach it to this cam! Thanks!

I bought the adapter off ebay from rainbowimaging. Great adapter and cheap. I think it was 30 bucks shipped!

Hope that helps and thanks for watching...

How much of that did you shoot with the 50mm, and how much did you shoot with the kit lens?

I use the 50mm mostly for portraits so almost all of part one was shot with the stock lens... Part two and three (coming soon) has more shots with the 50mm.

Wow... Then that's a great lens... How's the shallow depth of field on it?

The stock lens doesn't get very shallow because it is not very fast (the canon lens is much better for that). I guess it all depends on what you think is shallow. The shot where I am zoomed in on the camel's face was taken with the stock lens and so was the shot of the old man by the pyramid to give you an example...

I'm new to this cam so I'm not sure... But with the 50mm can you zoom and all like you can with kit lens? Sorry if that's a stupid question. Just curious if a fd kens behaves and acts like kit lens.

Hi UncleBenji, the 50mm is a prime which means that it does not zoom. You can certainly use fd zoom lenses with this camera, but it is hard to find fast (a lens that will be able to shoot low light and shallow dof) zoom lenses which is why this one is a prime lens. Hope that helps!
