thanks to Hansk for helping figure out how to post them.

Re: Shots from "Something Upstairs"

Also any comments on the pics themselves? I am still playing around with the colors and the darkness of the shots.

thanks

Re: Shots from "Something Upstairs"

nice, very nice . . . . maybe just a hint of skin colour the subject in the last two, just like the light she would get if holding a candle . . . minimal but there . . . love it! More More More

Re: Shots from "Something Upstairs"

good job Arc. maybe a more punch lighting to the scene. or make it darker and bring up the contrast of the tense scene. she's hot too. so it'll only work for the better.

Re: Shots from "Something Upstairs"

I liked the first shot.
As for lighting, I can't really comment on that because I am still learning myself.

All the best

Fidel.

Place your image link in the [_img][_/img] tags. Note: remove the underscores, just there so the tags show up in this post.

Re: Shots from "Something Upstairs"

I like the light in the first shot. I agree with the other posts. Dark shots are okay, but they should be dark for a dramatic effect.

The third shot is kind of tough because the background is well lit, but she's a little dark. Not too bad tho -- I like that you can just barely see her right eye.

Re: Shots from "Something Upstairs"

Looks really nice...any chance you can post the clips that go along with these images? I'd like to see some context.

Re: Shots from "Something Upstairs"

HA! i have that book she's reading. "Clearance and Copyright." You might want to switch that out next time because it might take the audience out of the scene, when they realize that's a book only filmmakers would have.

Nice composition.

Re: Shots from "Something Upstairs"

Thanks guys. I am still playing around with color and contrast. I want it dark and creepy, but still detailed.

disjecta: I will try to post some footage tonight. Although I think my sound card may have died so I may have to fix that first.

DVmaker: Wow is your nickname "Hawkeye". Well spotted on the book. That shot is the only one where you can actually see the cover. And the shot is quick when its moving so I doubt if anyone will see it. It was the only book of that size that I had around. Of course someone on this site spots it. ;D

Re: Shots from "Something Upstairs"

I think it's a bad cut from the view of her from the top of the stairs and then going behind her head. I'm going to watch it a couple of more times but I don't think that cut well. You might want to try letting her get up the stairs a bit more before you cut...

Re: Shots from "Something Upstairs"

Now that I think of it I think it's the actual shots. Maybe if you insert that side shot of her going up the stairs between them. Although this could be just me...

Re: Shots from "Something Upstairs"

thanks for the ideas tyler. i will switch it around in the edit tonight and see how it plays.

Re: Shots from "Something Upstairs"

Lighting is very subjective. You've got to go with what you like and what serves your story best. You know what they say, "Opinions are like ***holes. Everybody's got one."

So, I'll throw mine in (the opinion, that is). Guessing from your subject matter, if it were me, I'd punch up the contrast - go for a noir-ish look. That means harder sources. You're on track though :)

Re: Shots from "Something Upstairs"

Haha

Thanks Preston. ;D

This is my first DVX shoot. So I am all about getting opinions. And anyway without ***holes we would all be full of s**t!! :P

I did think of going with the noir look. Doing it in Black and white, etc. But I love the film look of the DVX so what I am trying to go for is the 70's faded horror look. "Jamie Lee Curtis being stalked in her home by the madman" feel, as that fits the story.
Hopefully you will get that in the finished film.

Re: Shots from "Something Upstairs"

What aspect ratio is that? 1|2.35? It looks weird without the usual black matte... Composition is great... And here I come with my a$$hole (hey got one too ya know!). I would tone down the lamp light in the first grab so you can actually see the details on it ;) ... everything is great, good luck Bro!

Cheers!

Re: Shots from "Something Upstairs"

By the way:

Cam settings?
3200K, 5600K or your own color balance?
Lighting used? How many? Light temp? Light watt?

Thanks!
