shotgun too small for mike holder

I just tried to fit NTG-3 into the cam's mike holder and the holder is way too big. I'll be getting a SM5 shockmount next week so hopefully that will be OK. How do you normally deal with different mike diameters? I am surprised that the holder is not designed to hold mikes of different sizes.
 
There is a little bit of adjustment. I would also recommend getting some foam or rubber and that will also add too some mike noise insulation... Gaff is also good and fun.
 
I thought the NTG-2 was going to be too small so I ordered the SM5 mount as well. It turns out that I never use the SM5 (does any one want to buy one? :)) and the NTG-2 does actually fit. It's not 'tight', but in a way that's good because the rubbery mount gives an element of shock resistance.
