Shotgun mic for outdoors?

if after 10 feet , you still can get good sound without picking lots of noise from others.... I want to know.... it's shotgun .... it needs technic to boom the object... NTG 2 is good.... I am using it all the time, just dont move so quickly, when another subject start talking, you wont get the off mic so obvious.
