Hello All,

I shot a piece in the in-camera "letter box" setting when I should have shot in "side crop' downconvert setting. I'm hoping that someone will be able to enlighten as to how I can export from FCP and convert in Compressor so that the final project will display as full 4x3 without black bars. The final project will be uploaded to YouTube. Is there a setting in FCP or Compessor that will accomplish this? Thanks much to all tips or suggestions...

It is not possible to shoot in anything but 16:9 with the HMC 150. The settings you mention define how the video is displayed out of the composite video socket and you can change them after the event.

There are guides available for the viewfinder that define the 4:3 frame so you can shoot within them and crop in post.

Create a 4x3 timeline in FCP then drop your footage on to it. You may ned to go to the motion tab in the view to change the scaling. The footage will usually be scaled by FCP to fit the width of the footage in to the viewer, creating bars on the top and bottom. In the motion tab simply undo the scaling until you are happy. Once you export it you will be fine.

Alternatively export a 16x9 clip to compressor, choose one of the 4x3 codec, go to the inspector and chose how you want the letter boxing to be applied (e.g. not).
