I have to agree with Erik. Most reality stuff I've done everyone is using "Free Run" Timecode set to the time of day so the editor doesn't shoot himself when he is linking up multiple cameras and audio. I can see DSLR's used for promos and stuff where you want depth of field, but I don't see how you could realistically use it with something as dynamic as reality tv. It's hard enough pulling focus on the fly with a 1/3 or 2/3 chip camera, but I bet it's almost impossible to do it with DSLR sensors. There is a reason that 1st AC's are on the camera team. If it was that easy to pull focus they wouldn't have a job.
I would definitely keep the 7D, but I'm sure you can find a cheap HVX200. P2 media has come down alot recently! Or get a used/new Panasonic AG-HMC150 that uses SD Cards since you can pick them up cheap all day long.
