Short - The Proposal

This weekend rocked. We made a really cool short film for the Apple Insomniac Film Fest. The basic premise: we had 24 hours to make a 3 minute video using 3 or more elements. Example, a park bench and the line "Don't tempt me."

We had a lot of hurdles to clear. For one scene we wanted to have Cam, the lead, rob a jewerly store. Problem was we couldn't find any stores that were willing to let 3 boys and gun come inside.

Another scene needed the lighting to be set to day but by the time we got to it it was night. Nick and I collaberated and came up with a method for faking it. We set up a light outside the window, I bounced a 2nd light off of the pink wall, and the final light was put in the other, shooting across, to cut out shadows.

The second biggest issue we had was the final scene. At midnight we were ready to shoot the proposal but it started raining. There was some discussion of cutting the scene or shooting elsewhere but neither would complete the film. We had to shoot that scene. So we piled 5 big tarps in the trunk and set out to film it. ...In the rain. I used one tarp to put over me and the camera and the others to cover gear and cables. Nick, Cam, and Katie just had to get wet.

Oh, another fun thing. The park we were shooting in was closed after 10pm. It was really fun trying to avoid the cops. Every-time one drove by we cut the lights and hid.

Our biggest and most difficult task was taking a 4 and half minute film and cutting it down to 3 minutes. Because of all the cutting that we had to do we lost some great events. To correct this problem there is going to be a Director's cut of the film. It will be premiered at the premiere for "The Curse of The Blessed" on November 8th and 9th in theaters. That's right, our film we be shown in theaters.

Well here's the 3 minute cut we sent in.

Plot synopsis: Love and poverty drives a man to steal for the perfect proposal.
