Short: The Kyudo Competition

Hi Alessandro,

good to see another foreigner in Japan on the boards. I see you're based in Kyoto. I'm in Tokyo. How are things in Kansai?

I downloaded the movie but Windows Media Player said a codec was needed to watch the movie. Might I ask which one this is?

Hi man, Kansai is great!

Sorry you d/l the movie with no luck...

I dunno about the codec!

I rendered it with Vegas in standard MPG but with less resolution to permit web download....

Many others could watch it! try open it with another viewer!

let me know!

Nice Job! Great visuals, cuts and audio.

Is it just on my end or is the video really squished? Things seemed stretched out vertically on my screen.

jg

Uhm.. I can see it correctly but I m using MediaPlayer Classic...
Actually I also see it squeezed if I use Windows Media Player...

Any help, please???

Really beautiful. I honestly don't know what happened in that, but I did watch the entire thing. It was captivating. Although I was hoping to see some actual archery!

Yo lads Im in Tokyo also... dmac which part of Tokyo you in, perhaps we could catch up oneday. Im doing a few small jobs around, maybe we can hook up on some two camera jobs? Dling the clip now. Images were really nice! Really liked it.. luckily I can understand whats going on. Did he ever get there?

Did you stretch the image deliberately?

I didnt stretch the image... I m using a custom timeline made of 720 X 276 pixels.
I see perfectly when editing in Vegas, i see it perfectly when i watch the movie on Media Player Classic. But on Windows Media Player it seems it cannot recognize that I rendered the file with the same ratio of the timeline.

Any suggestion? To have a panoramic frame even after rendering?

[edit]

happy to know you get the story! becos of japanese?
he never get there... never phone to a relative who is driving a car.

hey ncje,

I live in monzen nakacho now, but moving to meguro on jan 27th.....
maybe we know some of the same people, tokyo's a small place. (in the production world I mean)

hmm...why am I the only one who can't watch this movie?

d-mac, I can't watch it either and I can't solve the problem no matter what I try including mulitple computers both windows and mac...

RoamingRobert and d-mac, sorry... I m sure I ve used a standard and very common codec for MPG. Nothing tricky... I really cannot figure out how to solve the issue... Also the one of squeezed frame...

It seems to me like maybe you exported with the pixel aspect ratio set incorrectly. When I told my player to *not* maintain aspect ratio, it looked just fine.

Uhm... thanks for the hint! But I still not understand what to do... I made several tries with all aspect ratio settings and the Windows Media Player still shows up with squeezed images.

Can you tell me once and forever WHAT aspect ratio should be the right one to render panoramic screen (with cropped footage) without having black bars and that shows correctly by default.

I think that too many failed tries messed me up....

What NLE are you using?

Most likely DMAC, what have you been working on in Tokyo? Anyway if your interested in catching up sometime soon, I am also now in contact with two other DVX users here as well.

hi ncje,
I'm working freelance production, usually as an assistant.
two projects in December, one was on a Land Rover commercial, directed by Jordan Scott, the other was a promotional video for Channel 4 in the UK.
Yeah, who are the users? maybe I know them already....

QuickTime 7 plays it on my mac just fine, no squeezing.
And it's playing as a stream in Safari. No need to download.

I spoke too soon! I was basing my judgment on the frame shape and size, but hadn't viewed it yet.
Just watched it and it is definitely squeezed.

Beautiful imagery, though!

I think I got the reason for the squeeze and I m fixing it.
As soon I m sure I ll tell you what settings I found good.

EDIT:

Ok, just for everyone information I think I managed to reencode the movie without the problem of squeezed image.

The problem was just the PIXEL ASPECT RATIO that FROM the timeline settings to RENDERING Settings must be SQUARE PIXELS, to be seen on PC screens.

It's strange becos I did know about this and the very first setting was like this. Then becos of some oddity I played around and it seems I lost the magic setting.

Anyway i have to report that often the VEGAS seems to play tricks. Until now only when rendering in QT. Now also with Main Concept MPG2. Just like it need a sort of warm up.... beforefinding the right path.
I dunno how to explain myself better.

So, I reencode the movie changing directly the settings in the PROJECT SETTINGS and then again ensuring that they match on the rendering too.

Unfortunately blackbars appear, and it seems all the footage lost definition.... I think becos a new general setting has been applied to a previous one.

I m pretty sure that starting from the scratch with new good and matching settings from PROJECT to RENDERING will lead to encode a "panorama" mpg without squeeze and without loss of definition.

If you have the patience to try again d/l and watching you can even taste a new end for this movie, slightly different than the previous one.

Thanks for reading and testing.

Sorry I should have said they are DVX users, not members of this board.
