Short shot with the HVX

Great short man! Every aspect was nice. The shots were composed great, the pacing was good as well as the sound and music. Did you do a lot of color correcting?

Thanks

Thanks

Thanks for your comments guys,
I didn't do much color correction, just did some desaturation and maybe added some contrast where it needed some. I also had to adjust brightness in some shots because the light changed and you could clearly see where I put the two shots together.

We shot for two days and I'm not sure how long it took me to edit, I find when editting time flies, 4 hours go like that! Weeks not months anyways.
I'm glad you liked the short guys.

well, you already caught your "mistakes" so i wont hit ya with em, but other than the obvious keying flaws, the film didnt lose any of its interest. I thought it was very well put together, great framing, editing, timing.

This is one of those times that because the film is well done, the mistakes dont make me distracted.

yeah i edited all of it in final cut. The concept came from the isolation and the lonely feeling i got from edward hopper paintings, this was just the starting point of the idea and I went on from there!

I agree keying isn't great, it was the first time i ever used blue screen so I'm happy enough with it.

NVM what exactly was bluescreened? i'm green to the whole concept of video compositing. did you have to shoot everything in 1080?

blue mirror

blue mirror

I used green screen on the mirror when the charachter was standing in front of it. And I shot blue screen for when the hand etc comes out ot the mirror. I would have used green screen for that too but I didn't have any green cloth or what ever.
I shote those scenes 1080i and the rest SD. Could have shot everything in SD just chose to shoot the green/blue screen stuff in 1080i since there's more color information.

I liked it!! but here are my opinions...

the story was... well short... personally I like dialogue.... shot comp was on point... the bathroom mirror fx looked a bit on the fake side... I caught the jump cut when your character's reflection opened the door... I felt you could of got the "reflection" point across in the direction rather than trying to utilize vfx and literally have the reflection claw his way out of the wall... but I can tell you enjoy vfx...nothing wrong with that... i feel vfx should help the story and not be relied on to get the message across...

I did love your locations, wardrobe and editing... it's as good as it gets... and your off camera special effects.... having your character walk backwards... genius!! better than anything i have done... well... my first feature is still in the making.

please pardon my opinions... but one of my better qualities in film making is my eye for what works and what disturbs the flow of the visual story telling... that’s why I’m here on dvxuser... it helps me technically.

you have a solid eye... recognize your abilities... work on your weakness... but most of all know when and where your abilities work best together... if i may i would like to suggest to think of ways you can tell a story without vfx then add the sugar coats...

hope this comment will help you grow... or you can just call me an A** HOLE!!!!! Thank you for sharing... and putting yourself out there

Sincerely

Thanks for your comment
I agree the vfx are a bit on the fake side:) this is the first time i ever did vfx and I don't think I'll use them for much in the future, I prefer in camera work! Prior to this short I didn't know how to do anything in fcp except for normal cut and paste editing. It was a good experience for me and I'm happy with the look and mood of the short.

thanks again
