Did you have to hit her to get the rights to it?
Hey lighten up guys ;D It's just a video. Monte's right in saying that it's all about the unexpectedness of the video. And the music, how can you guys bag on the music? It's the final climactic "ahhhhhh" that hits the homerun! 8)
Now I'm not saying that hitting women is alright but you've really got to take it into context. Do you really think that Lincolnlog made this to advocate female abuse?
Anyhow, Lincolnlog, that was comedic genius. The timing, choice of music, and the shocking event was really well executed. They're right in saying that the girl's dialogue was a bit drowned out by the music but the rest of it was so well done I forgot about it.
OK, fine. Maybe I just don't see the humor in it because it's never even been on the fringes of occurring to me to punch anyone I was dating. I guess that's not a universal experience.
OK, you know what? I've watched this again and re-read all of your posts.
All of you should be ashamed of yourselves. You're like the kids on a playground who stand around cheering when some poor kid is getting the snot beat out of him. Yeah!! She had it coming!! Should have drop-kicked her!! This is genius!!
This is a male-dominated board, and especially in that light, this is an obscene display.
I got a PM from a female member of the board thanking me for saying what I said because she was too afraid to.
If you need any other evidence that this crossed the line, that should be it right there.
If you think it's "genius," well, I'm sorry for you.
Damn, man. If you went to the site where the videos are hosted you'd see the entry was to "show the climax" of a movie in a ten second span.
The video was MEANT to get your attention and catch you off guard. If that didn't I don't know what would. It's something we we're not expecting to see, that's why it's funny. After watching it I was shocked but laughed it off. I was expecting them to kiss or something, so it caught me off guard.
So please get over it. Lincoln's not condoning the domestic violence of women. There are movies out there with worse acts of violence towards women, so don't flame this one. It was a FICTION video only meant to get your attention and maybe get a laugh out of you.
And if you can't see past a funny 10 second video and realize there are way worse movies out there depicting violence towards women and children, than I really feel sorry for you.
I completely see what David is saying about this. Yeah I know, it's just a joke, its not real but I didnt think it was funny. Now, Im not going to come across as a prude becasue those of you that know me, well, you know my sense of humor. In not thinking its funny, it doesnt mean I am against it. Jackie Brown has a scene where Deniro caps Fonda when she is just running her mouth for like 10 minutes. I actually laughed out loud at this incredulously. It was so unexpected and sensational that I couldnt believe it when he shot her in the parking lot.
This? Wasnt that funny. What was the point. Yeah, the camera work sucked (and if its not DVX what the hell is doing in this thread?).
Here's the deal. There are some professionals on this site that take filmmaking very seriously and something like this isnt. David has even a better point. There are female members on this board and to say "She deserved it...." might not be the way to go.
The thing that surprises me is that something of this 'quality' would even garner any comments. No offense to the maker of this piece, but then again, no offense to the ladies right?

Obviously there's much worse stuff out there.
But does that mean we have to be the ones making it?
And just because something else is "worse", does that mean we have to turn a blind eye to something that we find offensive? Or even embrace it, and proclaim it "genius"?
I do think this was intended to have a comic tone to it, as evidenced by the music. That doesn't mean people will find it funny, but clearly it was meant to be.
There's not much funny about nuclear bombs, or Hitler, but some filmmakers have used those subjects to make successful comedies (Mel Brooks' classic "Springtime For Hitler" song, for example, or "Life Is Beautiful").
But a guy punching a girl in the face? Shocking? Yes. "Genius"? No. Offensive? Clearly, although probably moreso for some than others.
Even the comedies involving Nazis -- "The Producers," "Life is Beautiful," or even "Hogan's Heroes," the offensive subject matter -- the Nazis -- was treated with the contempt it deserved. What's funny is people prevailing IN SPITE OF the horror. Here, the horror itself -- the punch in the face -- is what's supposed to be funny.
you could have shot this on my cell phone that takes video clips. this doesnt show off the dvx very well. was it even shot with a dvx?
the punching thing made me go "woah". im not offended, but i can see why someone might be. it doesnt have a comic undertone about it...and not being able to see it in context can give people different impressions.
like if she was an alien about to kill everyone on earth...then maybe people wouldnt get so upset about her getting nocked out....
like the scene in airplane where they are smacking the shite out of the girl "i gotta get outta here...i gotta get outta here!!"...now thats funny!
Maybe it's an age group thing, kids today are raised around different types of comedic TV programming like Family Guy, and South Park...
I'm assuming many (not all) of the people who found this offensive are 30+ years of age, now ponder that for a minute...
In reference to that I could see why some people would be offended, but, comon!
Take my words with a grain of salt, and I don't believe any female member of the board should be "afraid" to come and debate, being this is an open forum
I guess your taste just gets better with age. (couldnt resist)
Serious though, south park is funny although I might be the only person that hardly ever watches it (although I was one of the precious few to see the XMAS Jesus/Santa before anyone knew what Southpark was) and I can respect the opinion of a generational gap perhaps...
But this wasnt funny :-/ Rich is correct that out of context it is hard to judge where this is/was going and how it lead to this conclusion. But it wasnt funny. It was even technically excuted in an artistic way. I am older (34) and married and with child (son) and Ill be the first to admit that not only age but these factors contribute greatly in how I view the world but...
This wasnt funny. :-/ It was more like a complete waste of bandwidth.

There she is!
Think of it this way guys...
Remember that vid that was posted up of the chubby kid acting like a retard w/ his little sister? Remember how everybody laughed and laughed? This is in the same vein, just a stupid little poorly shot larf.
I can respect if you didn't find it funny, but saying it's "offensive" is a bit of an overstep, just my 2 cents..
For the record; I never said it was offensive. As Barry pointed out "I can see where some people might find this offensive." I more perplexed at the genius comment than anything.
The chubby kid video was funny, the lightsabre chubby kid video is funny and I even thought the breakdancing legless dude was funny. This wasnt in my opinion. And again, I never said it was offensive to me.
Its a matter of opinions thats all. The real heart of the matter is "Is this DVX?"
You're talking about the downs' syndrome kid on the couch bouncing around? Not everybody laughed at that. I remember there were quite a few of us who found it outrageous that that was being used for laughs, and the guy who had used it as his avatar changed it because of the complaints.
blah blah blah...everyone is different...not everyone has the same taste...i for the most part will laugh over retards jumping on the couch or star wars kid...one of my favorite sites is ebaumsworld...the videos there kill me. but mostly because they are not planned out, its just moslty homevideo shite or things caught on tape. most of it wasnt done with any sort of intention...
anyway, like this little gem...what guy hasnt been in this "sorta" situation with a lady...you think you are being all sweet and nice or whatever, only to do something completly bonehead and screw it all up...know what i mean?
That kid had Downes Barry? Ouch. That changes it somewhat. I had no idea. :-/ I thought it was just a chubby kid acting crazy.
Yeah, the moral is 'to each his own'.
That ebaums is staged. How convenient that she moves the pan over so she can be placed there, how convenient that he moves the camera into position. But ebaums is some crazy stuff though!
no way dude, she moves the pan over cause she doesnt want the pan to get to hot while she talks to her man. he puts the cam there so he can see them go at it. so yeah, thats staged. maybe it was all planeed it seemed pretty natural to me though.
