We shot our latest short on 16mm w/ a Bolex. It was fun to go back and dust off a camera most of us hadn't used since film school, but also very frustrating. I would love any comments or criticisms. Thanks!

Edit: My employer wanted changes made to the video (again) and asked me to pull it down. I will repost tomorrow. Sorry for the confusion.

EDIT #2: It's live again, for those that are interested - http://youtu.be/jXT6dEGu1_c
Also, be sure to check out the behind the scenes video - http://youtu.be/EinM8uX3tG0

It comes up as private and restricted to me. Haven't touched a Bolex since the very early '80s, but I used to love 'em back in the day.

I was lucky enough to watch it before it went private. It was about "text" invading the capitals of the world. So by that you could assume 50% is "CGI"... in my humble opinion I find it ironic that this was posted in the cinematography section, as I really feel that good cinematography is what it lacked to empathize the beauty of the old 16mm Bolex cameras.

For those 99% who did not get to see the video, imagine alien spaceships invading planet earth. Now, replace those alien spaceships with huge bulky 3D chunks where it stays TEXT.

I just bought a Nikon R8 Super 8 camera; shoots manual, variable frame rates and variable shutter angle. About to do a test roll to check it out. Kind of excited about it, haven't shot film in ages. Could be cool for music videos... yummy yummy film.

Good Cinematography =/= Pretty Cinematogrpahy.

Good cinematography is the camerawork serving the story in the best way possible. They were going for super-shlocky 60/70s movie and I think they pulled it off pretty well.

I thought it was cool. I dig the fact they stepped outside of the box and shot 16mm film. Though it was rather noisy, I think a bit more would have helped with the look you were going for. Although youtube isn't the best way to rate film. Anyways cool project. keep up the good work for this campaign.
