Shot my short last night...wanted to post some screen grabs...it was shot with the mini35 adapter...very tired, going to bed....

These are jpeg versions of the full-size 720 frames...some of the noise is from the compression..some of the noise is from the camera...

Very nice stuff. I think I recognize the older man with the glasses. The adapter looks like it worked very well. What's the premise of the short?

i think it looks good, BUT for some reason i don't like the colors. seems very oranged washed and it bothered me with their skin tone that color. that's my opinion so don't take it to heart. i still think it looks good.
 
Those grabs look incredibly filmic. Post a clip!

By the way, when you say mini35 adapter, do you mean the P&S technic mini35?
 
I agree that the colors need to be boosted a bit...these are just raw frames, no CC...

Yes, we used the PS Technic mini 35 adapter...the close up shots are using a 135mm lens. We rented a set of Cooke primes from Du-All.
 
WHats a mini 35 adapter, and I didnt know you could switch lenses on the HVX?! o ANd how long is the short in script pages and time,I have to shoot my first true short in a week. Im scared,nervous,anxious and I dont know if one saturday is enough time!!
 
The P+S Technics is a lens adapter system that allows you to put 35mm cine or still lenses on a video camera. You don't actually switch out the lens on the video camera. The system works with the HVX and DVX as well as a lot of other cameras (Canon, Sony, JVC, etc...). There are a few different companies that make them...you should be able to find one for rent in Dallas.

If you're interested in learning more about them, you should do a search on lens adapters...there have been a lot of threads about them.

My short is 8 pages long and we shot the whole thing in one night at a local bar. The finished product should end up being around 6-7 minutes long as the whole thing is dialogue...I'll have some clips up sometime in the next day or so.

P.S.T., how long is your short? Is it all set in one place or are there multiple locations and company moves? Is it a day or night shoot?

Yeaaaah it seems Rodrigo's attempt at just CC'ing a still totally messed the image in regards to noise.
 
You could go for a real grainy look. Maybe add more grain, boost the video level and add a bleach bypass effect (if you want to go more extreme).
 
Well, the stills as they stand look okay... but seeing the actual short, not just stills, might be better before judging the quality or jumping so far off as to color correct... when he might've chosen this specific look for his short.
 
Try color correcting in an uncompressed timeline and then render out h.264's or other distribution formats from an uncompressed master. You might be able to push the cc a little more without as much artifacting if you don't re-render the image in DVCProHD .
 
Nice shots. DOF is really great. What was your lighting setup? I realize some of the noise is jpeg, but is everyone seeing more noise in low light situations? I know I'm seeing it in my shots...not terribly distracting, but I wish I could control it more.
