Short Film - Love Lies Bleeding

Im pretty impressed to see something of this caliber from a HS student. You obviously have some talent, in writing, shooting (the shots all look very nice, some good camera equipment obviously), and editing.

A few gripes: All the slow mo in the begining needs to be tuned down. Some is ok, but it gets a little slow paced when it goes on for a min +. Not sure if the romantic spanish song is fitting given the nationalities of all the actors. I found it more distracting then helpful. I thought it conveyed the right emotion, but id consider changing it in the beginning. I did think after the restaurant convo and when he walks up through the picket fence gate when the instrumental is playing, that is the better place for it, and it works better there.

Some of the nigth shots are pretty noisy, but i guess thats somewhat unavoidable if you dont have budget for a ton of lighting stuff. Its not to bad though, just maknig the comment.

I thought at some points the dialog was a little overly dramatic for teens (could be the delivery itself that needed tweeking). The main actor seemed almost to weave in and out of an almost british accent.

The chick and her bf were a little flat in that scene when he comes calling at the door. I thought maybe a more deperate act was needed to get the bf caling the cops.

Im a huge film buff, and i hope you take my comments as constructive criticism. As a film maker your skills are already far beyond my own and im probably 10 years older than you. You can check my posts for some of my shorts. I just started in this about 4 months ago, really more of an aspiring writer, but ive had fun so far.

Id love to see more stuff from you, keep it up.

Thanks for the reply. I agree with the song. The movie actually features the same song throughout, just different versions by different artists. If the film gets into a film festival, we have plans to rerecord the soundtrack and people to do it. But its a lot of work to do if its not necessary.

I did the main part in the movie. I do tend to slip into a halfway-british accent sometimes, especially when doing quiet stuff so I'll have to watch that in the future.

As far as camera equipment, this movie was done across two cameras. Half of it with a Canon XL2 and half with an HV30. I sold off the XL2 about halfway thru the movie and the HV30 was my second cam, which then became the primary for the remainder of the film.

We tried to light up the night scene a bit using some shop lights on the house. They did actually work quite well but theres definitely room for improvement.

Overall, I'm very happy with how this film turned out, especially considered we didn't spend a dime on it.
