Short film: Every Dead Has Its Day

Hi everyone,

My friends and I entered Austin's Alamo Drafthouse 48-hour filmmaking contest last weekend. The people running the contest assigned each team a horror 'sub-genre', a weapon that had to be used in the film, and a line of dialog that every entry had to use in the movie. Teams were supposed to take all these prompts and make a zombie movie. Our sub-genre was '80s high school slasher movie' and the weapon we had to use was rope. We had 48 hours (from Friday at 7PM to Sunday at 7PM) to write, plan, shoot, and edit a movie that could be up to 6 minutes long.

Our short explores the predicament of a slow, Night Of The Living Dead zombie stuck in a world overrun with sprinting, rabid 28 Days Later zombies.

I have a long list of shots I'd like to have gotten and other nit-picky details, but 48 hours isn't much time.

I used a GH1 with the kit lens and the 20mm lens. I shot in B&W dynamic.

Anyway, I'd love to hear comments and feedback.

Not my kind of movie but...

Once I got to the second piece of action I realized what the movie was probably about; at that time I also had to stay to the end to see how it ended.

I'll give you a few "thumbs up" ;-)

It will be interesting to see other comments.

LOL - enjoyed the concept.

Kudos for coming up with something original and funny in such a short time.

The main zombie guy was quite good.

The ending was just too clunky though. Bit of a shame... not 100% sure how to make it better. things that spring to mind would be... get the actor to look properly trussed up rather than the rather lame impression he actually did. Possibly just end with the zombie looking into the camera and smiling / grimacing in some way to show his pleasure? Something along those lines.

Titles could have been more professional looking.

Anyway.. considering the strict time limit - well done!

EDIT: Oh yeah.... marks off for taking '80's high school slasher movie'..... then ignoring that brief and making '80's zombie movie' instead.

Sure the guys at the start might have been at high school - but this kind of misses the point of the brief i think.
