Short film "Amal" gets into 4 festivals!

Just wanted to announce that the little short film we shot in India last December has gotten into four festivals: Montreal Film Festival, Atlantic, Palm Springs, and a the prestigious Telluride Film Festival.

I'll be off to Montreal this weekend for the festival so I won't be catching up on email until I get back.

Bob I love your work. This looks really good. Ive always wondered how to say "Money Sucking Leech" and "Stupid Fool" in Indian and now I know.

I want to see this! I wish you all the luck in the festivals! Reminds me of "In this World" somewhat (style). Inspiring.

woow love the clips..regardless of the camera work the sound was good and the story appears compelling..I gotta see more..pls can you compress a mov version for us..I love foreign films..

Your work is really beautiful. Excellent composition and your use of color and lighting is quite exquisite...very inspirational.

Intriguing story line. Can't wait to see where it leads...

Great job. Not the best cinematography, but the acting and story line hold it's own.

I think it's awesome and I would love to see the whole film. The only thing I didn't like was all the hand held shots, it took away from the cinematic feel of the film and looked more home video. Do they not alow tripods in india or were you trying to stay hidden with the camera?

Thanks guys. It was very hectic shooting on the streets of Delhi. We didn't have a permit and there is police everywhere. We had a wad of money that was set aside to bribe cops if we had too. Luckily we only had to do this twice. So there was no way we could set up a tripod. The compressed movie online with a different frame rate looks more stutery  than the actual film. But yes there is more handheld movement than I wanted. But I'm happy with the overall production. The sound was 80 percent dubbed when we got back to Toronto.

Thanks for sharing the BTS footage. sometimes I enjoy that more than the actual film; which is where the magic lies.

Very nice work. Would really like to see this film (and the others mentioned on the website) on the big screen or tv.

Which microphone did you use with the DVX100? I'm still looking for one to use with my DVX100 but can't decide.

We used the Azden SGM-X1. However, we did ADR when we got back.

Bob, as usual your work is nothing short of excellent. And I've only seen 3 small clips. I don't miss the tripod except in the estabilishing shots, from a distace. But it's nothing compared to the great acting and what seems to be a very good script and sensible storyline. Man, I really want to see this !

Thanks for the behind-the-scenes! And the city has so much character that it just screams out to be filmed.

Thanks for the behind the scenes clips! I collect those. :D The storytelling is great, and is the most important. I want to see the rest of the movie. The third clip, where the money falls from his pocket, seemed more blurry or something. Was it in 60i?

You guys are from Toronto? Hmmm... I wonder if that big film festival happens to be the TIFF... if it is, I'm definitely going to have to come out and take a look. I'm picking my films on tuesday.

Congrats, your film looks great. If you guys ever require PA work done I'm always up for working with new people.
