4:10 (Drama)
screenplay 15 pages
Format: HD 720
Locations: NJ/ NYC
4:10 is a short film that takes a look at the consequences of choices. Manuel sees no other way for Maria to return his love other then to make himself the only man she can rely on. With "the task" completed the only thing left is dealing with his decision and the unexpected flood of emotions that now haunt him.
Maria (girlfriend): Marcia Hopson
Manuel (brother):
Fernando (brother):
Jose (uncle):
George (father):
Lucia (mother):
Back story: 4:10 is a short drama a completely different script taken from a screenplay I had written back in 2007 called Consequence. To make a long story short I wrote it and shot it with my family and friends as the cast and when I was done it was a complete mess lol- I don't know why I expected more but we live and we learn.
Fast forward 4 months I was shooting a music video in NYC for this guy named Dammy. I served as Dp he was directing, we became friends. Soon after I begged him to rewrite Consequence for me because his writing was poetry; something I notice when given the treatment for the Music video. I gave him free reign with one request- that he keep my concept of living with the consequences of our choices. What later came was a short story that blow my mind in its dramatic setting. On my first read ti sat so real, meaning that it did not have a happy ending. The texture of the story was real as something you'd read in a newspaper- yet it held your interest in the way it unfolds.
I have been trying to shoot this film for a while yet I never wanted to rust into it. I felt that there was so much I needed to learn before attempting to shoot this film. Plus I was broke then...wait that was not changed still broke...Ok so Yeah i'm in full pre-production Auditions this weekend in NYC.
Production details:
Camera: HVX200
Assesories: M2 adapter
I'm looking to buy a zacuto follow focus, mount and rods etc. I had this rig before and it's the most stable rig I have ever worked with and would love to use it on 4:10.
At this point i realized that we are as ready as we make ourselves to be, with that said I'm casting, taking it one weekend at a time. So far I have managed to find two friends that will rent me their HVX's. I have a Brevis 35 and if I so chose my boy Bruce has an M2 adapter. As far as crew a lot of my friends will be helping me out. In the past i have been the DP, director, editor you name it, this time around I just want to focus on directing.
Currently reading A guide for creative collaborations Cinematography for directors by Jacqueline B. Frost. An amazing book that I wish I had found sooner in my career. I really enjoy reading the interviews on the approach of some of the best cinematographers in the business. Til this point I have served as Dp, director and editor for a lot of my freelance projects as well as my own personal stuff. Yet feel that I'm more of a director that edits his own work. For this short I would love to collaborate with folks like me that have a concentration like an AC, a Dp a Gaffer. Folks that have done these roles before and are bringing those experiences to 4:10. But at no budget its hard to get a talented Dp or AC to help you out on your passion project.
The whole reason for this post is to share my experiences on getting 4:10 done and at the same time keeping me focused and inspired. Get some answers to questions a lot of the folks here already have come across. I will post pictures, test stills with 35mm adapter. Next thing on the list is the auditions this weekend so look forward to sharing those with you all. If you have gotten this far I thank you. will post Sunday night.
