A while back, I posted a rough cut of a short experimental film I was working on called "Reflection". It nothing special, just an experiment in split screen. You can watch the final version here:

Reflection

Like I said nothing special, just for fun. Feel free to make critiques, unless your name is John Hudson (j/k John).

Thanks,
Michael

Looked good.
I've made a few short video's myself with no one but myself... and me... and I also.
I enjoy playing around with effects like that. Usually it's just because theres no one else to work with.
I enjoyed the video.

Clever idea to utilize one actor so effectively. Making even a short film with only one cast member can be challenging.

I thought your lighting was good but I want to point out a couple of things, and maybe these are just things that I always see on the DVX unless edited out.

1) Every DVX film I have seen seems to have stark white walls. It really bugs me and I don't know why. I find it hard to believe that everyone's walls are that white. It's almost like DP's are white balancing off of the walls.

2) Colors are WAY too bold. I am not sure if your goal is to look like film or not, but if so, the colors have to be toned down. Is this a DVX thing or is it that everyone loves to pump up the Gain till it explodes?

The angles were fantastic, you do a good job of framing and all that. Hope you make a feature someday.

A nice short. You did a terrific job with the reflection in the mirror. Only complaint, and this is just nitpicking, is with the sound. It's like you almost had it but just fell a little short.

thanks for the compliments guys, I appreciate it.

marlenedegrood, what about the sound was off to you. the music or the dialogue? Thanks.

In regards to colors, funny thing is that I actually did a bleach bypass and took some saturation off the colors. Not alot just a tiny bit.

I'm still working on my cc skills. Cause eveyone knows that girls dig guys with skills.

I doubt that women are all that concerned with your color correction skills  I think it is other skills they have their mind on.

The dialogue just sounded a tad hollow with a little echo, the music was great. Remember....I didn't say it was bad. Now this might have been the effect you were looking for but it was just a little distracting to me.

looked great... that guys do is sweet!

how did you do the opening reflection title? Was it some kind of plug in?

The sound, maybe too much compression???

ps what mic/sound setup did you use?

For the reflection title, I basically just had two tracks. The top layer was the actor and the layer just below that was the reflection text. I then changed the compositing mode of the actor layer to multiply(mask). For the light effect, I just used the light rays plug-in and used key frames to change the position. All of this was done in Sony Vegas.

I do think the sound was just ruined by the compression. I have a quicktime 6 since I'm on a PC and whenever I compress a .mov file the audio gets that hollow sound. The audio sounds a lot better on a DVD copy.

For audio, I just use a boom setup with a Senheisser ME66/K6 set up. I really like the end quality that mic produces.
