This video is the first part of a series of short commercial docs I was hired to shoot about the various martial arts programs offered at the Pedro Sauer Total Self Defense Academy in Sterling, VA. This video highlights the Filipino Martial Arts program and the various benefits of training.

I used a hacked GH2 with Flowmotion v2.02. Interview portion was shot with a Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 stopped down to f/2.8. B-roll was shot with a mix of Canon FDs including the 50mm, 28mm f/2.8, and 17mm f/4. Sound was recorded using a Rode NTG2 on a boom arm recorded directly into camera.

Great job!

The best thing about your piece is that there's nothing distracting/I wasn't aware of the filmmaking process while watching it.

Hi

I liked it. Sound is really clear and consistent. Camerawork is also just right. If I wanted to offer a constructive suggestion after saying that everything is really good I would say that artistically I might desaturate the blue and gold. It is strong enough to be distracting. Maybe not that easy to do and also this is totally an artistic call. A picky call but I wanted to offer something as a suggestion. Best suggestion is probably to keep on doing excellent work like this.

Thanks for the nice feedback. I wanted to have the background be dynamic but not distracting. I do agree about the blue and gold a bit as I already desaturated it a little bit, but yeah those colors are very strong.
