Short Clips hosted by Beautiful Blonde (wife)

You did a nice job but I think part of the reason you are not getting responses is that the encoding you have done for the Web version is pretty bad. Not only is it hard to see because it's so tiny but it looks like there is a lot of stuttering in the movement.

Try re-encoding at least one segment and show it at a higher res.

Just my 2 cents.

Not too bad. I'd like to see the pace picked up a bit as well an insert or B shots of what is being talked about. Watching the host (as beautiful as she is) as a talking head get's repetative and old quickly. As she mentions the problems it might be more prudent to show the problems visually. She appears comfortable and confident on camera although she could 'spice up' a tad; smile, show some teeth; like good hostessess do.

Also, check your levels (use your videoscopes). This is very dark and does not appear in grand IRE fashion as it should. I also agree with the D-Man; Show us higher-rez episodes and consider Sorenson if you have not already.

Overall; not too bad at all.

I liked it. Your wife did a great job presenting the subject matter. My wife and I are house hunting in Hawaii so the content hits home. Two things though ...

First, as both Disjecta and John have mentioned, the material is a tad bit too dark. Anyway, I think we have beaten that dead horse enough. Second, in Episode 5 there is a shot of your wife swinging in a chair with the camera doing several 360 degree passes. While stylistic in technique, I still didn't understand what practical purpose it had other than to distract the viewer away from your wife/subject matter and instead focus our attention to the question of "why is he doing that?" At that moment, my attention span to what she was saying was severely diminished. I felt like a child with ADD. I'm no expert on cinematography (still haven't bought a camera yet), but to me stylized camera techniques should accentuate your message not detract from it. Your wife looks great in front of the camera no need for fancy-shmansy camera moves.

Other than that, this is an excellent start!

not bad. I would watch shows like "this old house" and such to see how they do it. John is right showing the viewer the actual problems could really go a long way.

Thanks to all of you for the feedback. I appreciate all the honesty, tips and advice. Massive room for improvement in encoding, less gimmickry and talking heads, which will be coming to a website near you soon....

Try either Sorenson Compression Suite OR Compression Master, they'll get your webfiles looking good and small enough. I couldn't see a thing on the first clip and had no desire to try the others.

It was a good show... I only watched number two... and from what I saw, like everyone else, it was a great topic, and presented very well... i agree with the B roll suggestion, little pan and tilt of various things, can do wonders for keeping peoples attention... And although the moving shot of your wife is a good idea... because you are zoomed in so close, she moves around the frame so much, sometimes she is half out of the frame. If you shot that zoomed out a little more, it would be much easier to keep her in frame. Also, this isnt a horror movie, there isnt really a need for that much of a close up, especialy in the begining.. kinda makes the viewer a little uneasy... and i assume your looking for the nice "come in my home" feel..

I am not sure If the clip is just a little weird from the net, but in one scene (moving from your wife, to the ceiling) but the light seemed to change, were you useing auto white balance? and did it change automaticaly while shooting?

I would bring down the audio on the jackhammer too... just going from low talking to JACKHAMMER back to low talking isnt the best.

again, overall, very good work, can be a very promising show one day... I dont know how you filmed this... but my suggestion (if you didnt do it this way) was film the whole talking part first, just medium shots, or whatever you choose, from start to finish... then get the B roll of the rooms and of what she is talking about, makes it easier to cut and move things around.. dont get me wrong, you can use pans and tilts while shooting her talk, but mix that in with some other stuff..

sorry, if i come off as a jerk, i really liked it
good luck
