Short 10cm shotgun microphone?

I'm looking for a short like 10 cm long shotgun microphone with XLR and phantom power. Any suggestions? It doesn't have to be the greatest mike, just something that's okay and not cheaply made.

A 4" shotgun?? I don't think so. Certainly there isn't enough length for an effective interference tube, maybe one of the multi capsule mics with computer pattern shaping. But the later is very expensive and I still don't think they get that small.

A "short" shotgun is about twice that size.

Audio technica AT875 is about the shortest shotgun around. It is pretty well loved as an economy mic that sounds decent, well built, and is forgiving since it has a relatively wide pattern. But it close to 7" long. Not sure if you will find much else shorter.

What is the motivation for so short? If you flesh out your needs, maybe you'll get better responses.

I have an AT875R and it's to long. I need something mounted on my FS7 that can be short enough to stay on camera even when I put it into my case. It doesn't need to be a true shotgun as the main purpose is to provide environment sound with at least a cardioid pattern.

That's good, because it won't be a shotgun, by definition. Interference tubes have to be long-ish to be effective. Such are the laws of physics.

What you can do is take one step down. For example a Sennheiser mkh 8050, which is only 41mm long by 19mm diameter. But this is a hypercardioid and not a shotgun.

Hate to state the obvious here, but how about buying a new case.
Biggest benefit is that you can use the right microphone for the job rather than your sound choices being dictated
by a camera case.

The directivity of a gun mic. is in direct proportion to the length of the interference tube.

The shorter the tube, the less directional it is.

If you want a proper gun mic. and as short as possible - then the Sennheiser MKH 8060 is the best option - use this with the optional remote cable that separates the capsule from the XLR module and you have the shortest priper gun mic. around.

If you really need a mint gun mic. - then the Ambient TinyMike is the one I would go for.
