hello,

i am doing my first multicamera shoot (3 cams) with the hvx200 shooting at 720pn.
how does one sync up all three cameras so the sound is crisp. i am going out of the board into camera a, which is the master shot. how do we factor in the other 2 cameras for editing purposes? how will the sound affect cutting between the 3 cameras.

is there something i should do with the timecode?

thanks again.

sincerely,

I shoot with two cams every day, and I just sync using the menus... In the edit, even if the TC is off a few frames / seconds it's still easy to get it lined up. After a few hours TC between the two cameras will drift by 3-4 seconds.

I just finished editing a college graduation video where the IT department used two cameras, one with sound from the board. The cameras were different (one Sony and one Canon... color grading was a PAIN!!) and they did not sync them.

In post I lined up the video using closeups of the people talking and I lined up the audio auraly (I'm a pro audio editor by background, so that my have been easier for me than most people). I then set the level of the camera with the soundboard feed at 0 (unity gain/normal) and the level of the camera without the audio feed at -40dB. That way my sound was crisp and clean (from the board camera) but had a depth and fullness from the other camera as well. Also able to blend in the audience reaction with the other camera.

As G. Said, you'll always have some variance in your TC unless you're running your signal to a master deck that can record multiple signals simultaneously. Nothing works quite as well as a little TLC in post and a good ear.
