Shooting with harsh strip lights.

Hi guys,

I'm new here and with the whole filming thing so go easy!
Well, i'm preparing for a shoot for a project me and 3 colleagues are doing together. It's a VFX heavy project as we all work in the film vfx post-production industry. We are shooting the plates on a DVX100a. It'll be the first time i use one and I won't be that familiar with it. I'm confident in being able to position/move the camera round on a steady-cam rig and dolly tracks etc....the thing that is concerning me is the lighting and the look of the film.

We are shooting in a multi-storey carpark at night. This obviously means a huge amount of strip lights and no natural light. We are going for an Icey cold grade in the end, green. But how would you guys go about any other lighting? I ...seemingly like everybody else want to get a filmic look, so will be shooting 24p. But do you think my footage will come out well with just the strip lights? or will i need some SERIOUS stage lights?

Any hints and tips would be ACE!

Jim

First step would be to see if you can shoot some tests to see how it looks currently.
That's the nice thing about DV. Take your camera ahead of time and shoot a test.
It's likely you'll want to add additional lights, especially if you have specific objects to show (actors, cars, etc)
