Shooting with DVX 100A and XL1

Hey everyone!

You all rock! I've been lurking here for a while now, and I thought I'd ask you all a question.

I'm helping shoot a documentary, and we're going to shoot a group meeting with 2 cameras. An XL-1 and a DVX 100A. It will be shot inside with some work lights. The documentary is being shot mostly on the XL-1, and I'm wondering if you all have any tips on how to make them look as similar as possible in camera so there won't have to be much color correcting. Luckily it's a doc, so it doesn't have to be as spot-on as a narrative, but I'd like it to be pretty close.

Nothing special setting-wise on the XL-1. We've been shooting at 1/60th, and just relying on the preset Tungsten and Sunlight white balance presets. I'm thinking maybe we should white balance to the same piece of paper or something for this dual camera shoot, or should I just rely on the ? What scene file should I use? Any other tips?

Thanks again!

Well, it's not easy to match these cams, but it can be done. First make sure that you don't shoot progressive, shoot 60i with the DVX as well. Second, make sure cinegamma is off. Then just make sure that both cameras white balance off the same object, and you should be pretty good. There will be a resoltution difference, but not too bad if both are shooting 60i. You will also have to do some color corrections in post in order to make the cameras match, but nothing too big. Good luck.
