Shooting with AE locked?

Do you guys shoot with AE locked all the time? When I don't use AE locked I really hate the way exposure adjusting the scene and ruin the shot, it makes the video look like home video. But if I use AE locked I also have the same issue but at least I have control over it. How are you guys dealing with AE?

I always lock both aperture and shutter speed, controlling exposure with a Singh-Ray Vari-ND. This works very well outside, or indoors where there is plenty of light.

I don't deal with AE, I'm on full manual non-stop-round-the-clock. Shutter is permanently at 1/50 (unless going for slo-mo then 1/100), with the aperture rings on my Canon FDs I set the amount of DOF I want and I control exposure with ISO and ND filters.

Even in full manual wouldn't AE still adjust automatically with the kit lens? I'm not referring to Aperture.

I'm not referring to Aperture
I'm not sure what you are referrng to. Exposure is controlled by ISO, shutter speed, and aperture. In full manual mode, (Creative Motion Picture Mode, submode manual) you set all three and that's that. Under what circumstances are you then seeing the exposure change?

Let me try full manual and see if it improves. When I'm in S mode under Creative motion picture mode, I have ISO to auto and Aperture to auto. The exposure adjusting I'm referring is the AE lock. When you're in interior shooting and when you go outside in the sun the exposure adjust automatically. If the AE locked, it will still keep the exposure even in bright light (over exposed). i don't like the camera adjusting in auto so I locked the AE.

Ok I got it. In full manual I don't have AE adjusting problem. I never realized it was the Aperture doing that afterall.

Ok, with stock lens, 14-140, CMM sub mode Manual, 1/50, f6.3, zoom, exposure still changes? why doesnt it just get dark?

Ah, well, at that point zoom exposure compensation does seem to happen - and I don't think there's a way been found to stop it. (I say 'seems' because I don't think everyone agrees that it happens). Yes, you'd expect the picture to darken as you zoom in but if it can, it opens the aperture to counteract that normal optical effect. I believe that with version 1.0 firmware, it even messed with ISO in that situation but with the upgrade, it no longer seems to.
