Shooting white......

Is it a must to avoid shooting white like walls and clothing as much as possible? Why, and if it is unavoidable what are some ways to get around the problem if any?

Thanks

Not that I am aware... but I dont know too much. Id imagine that lighting would be the key to shooting whites correctly..... plus of course accurate white balancing. I guess many people are shooting white wedding dresses in weddings for a start.

Remember that the eye is drawn to the lightest spot in the frame first. White walls are a pain and you have to light accordingly - cookies help.

As for clothing, if it is a costume what is generally done is darkening down the fabric. Be it a bed sheet or a dress, you can dye it very slighty so it has a small tint of grey or brown to it to the human eye. The camera will still pick up the fabric as white, but it won't be as bright.

If it's an actual wedding, that's probably not plausible.
