Hello all,

I am helping a friend out tomorow shotting some 2nd unit shots for her TV show. They asked me to use the DVCPRO50 codec with 16:9 (squeeze) setup.

They use FCP to edit and they are not used to working with MXF files. They either use 1/2 chip digital betacam cameras and digitilize from tape or when they use the HVX200 they use it with the firestore set to record quiktime .mov files.

I don't have a firestore and will be logging all this work on p2 cards.

Since I use premiere and have NO clue about the FCP workflow here are my little worries :

- They want this in 24 fps - So should I setup the camera for 24p or 24pA ? The guy from the production I talked to said 24p ( but i still have a doubt)

- What sort of sceenfile seetings should I use ? I work mostly in films and with film looks usually but this is for TV. They obviously want some sota filmish look (since they asked for 24fps and 16:9) however should I use another gamma type like high ? or Press ? or even SD default ? Should put the camera on filmcam or videocam ??? Should I tweak detail levels ? Color saturation ? - To be honest I think I would rather give them a nicely colored picture but not to saturated , not to contrasty ( without being flat) giving them some leverage in Post...

Please i really need to setup this camera well to work with DVCPRO50 (i am a noob with this codec) - Like i said, i am coming from film - Shooting very personal documentaires with the HVX in HD 720pn with the cine curves D and V. editing with Premiere cs3... But I wanna make a swith to televison in the coming years and this tomorow shoot is important...

Thanks in advance for any inputs and suggestions.... and please disregard my saturday morning english...Montreal French here...

I would go 24PA. Scene setting is a matter of choice. I have one setup as 'interview' which works well in SD for broadcast. I use Cine V or B.press, keep the master ped around -3, keep the detail around +1 and keep the Sat around +2.

If you want to succeed in broadcast, I think the more important things to remember are white balancing, clean audio and capturing what you need to capture in a time efficient manner. I have found that if you nail the previous three, then composition, proper focus and stylized looking footage are less important.

Thanks for the suggestion about the scene setting, it was pretty close to my first impressions.

Im still very very concerned about the 24p vs 24pa in finalcut - I really have to learn this software... Getting a MAC... imagine this...
