Shooting to Hard Drive

Hello,

Does anyone know a shooting direct to hard drive solution?

It would be helpful to shoot continuously without switching and dumping P2 cards every 4 to 16 minutes. It seems to me that there should be a device that can house hard drives and connect directly to a camera with a cable.
Is there a laptop solution?

Hi Joe,
there is...Firestore for one. Please search the threads, you will find plenty of info.

I noticed some PCMCIA cards that give laptops USB or 1394 ports and got to thinking if it could be inserted into the P2 slot on the camera and connected to a hard drive to capture to.....home made Firestore. Anyone have any thoughts? Seems too easy to work.

My Eastman,

Thats an interesting Idea. I bet a computer would be needed some where in the mix.

I know that these cameras have a firewire port. I wonder how long a cable could be used to connect a computer and then right to cheeper hard drives.

I wonder, If some one is working on a wifi solution.

this is more or less what the cineporter does... but it has a little magic between there.

From what i understand the cineporter comes with a hard drive built in. I'm looking for something that will allow me to carry off the shelf hard drives in the field and swap them out like tapes or film.
hard drives are cheep

I think right now the only solution to what you're looking for is a laptop.

It's the only 'swappable' hard drive workflow I can think of. And even then not exactly what you're looking for.

Unless you could engineer your own capturing interface that could capture from the camera to a 7200 rpm hard drive without the need for dumping, P2 cards, or the host mode. But i think it'd be cheaper and easier to just get a laptop, the Cineporter, or Firestore. When they become available of course.

didn't the guy from spec-com say the cineporter would do this eventually in later models(and with a RAID 1)?
