Shooting SUPER smooth slow motion

ok, so i have a DVX100b, and im looking to shoot slow motion with no flicker. i know shooting 60i and slowing it down in post, but how do i get it to be really really smooth, no flickering, or anything, really really smooth.

im guessing a shutter either really high like 1/1000 or something really slow like 1/8 or 1/15

heres an example in Yeah Right! this is exactly what i want to do:

am i right? is there advice to be given here?

I think your options are a bit limited with the dvx100. I'm thinking that setting the shutter to 1/1000 is going to increase the shutter close to open ratio and make flikering/strobing worse. And because of the 60i rate, you're going to be limited on the low end of your shutter speed.

In post you can get slow, but super slow... I'm not sure. I don't know exactly what the standard post tools do (if they do any frame interperation, or if they just repeat frames to do time streaching). I suspect the latter, with perhaps some 3rd party tools that might to the interpelation.

To do that kind of shot with the results you describe a camera (video or film) designed for super slow motion would be required. I'll bet you'll be able to get some pretty good effects with the dvx, but it just isn't to tool to get outstanding slow motion results.

How slow do you want to go? 50%? 25%? Slower than that?

The rule of thumb is to double the shutter speed when you double the slowmo.

For really slow motion, the Twixtor recommendation is spot on. Shoot 60i, deinterlace with FieldsKit, slow mo with Twixtor. There are some examples of what it looks like around this forum, do a search, I was watching some here yesterday. Buttery smooth.
