Shooting outdoors.

Most of the scenes I've seen are shot inside.

I understand that the colors look muted when shooting outdoors? (for example - the sky looks more gray-purple than blue) I am thinking of buying this camera, but alot of what I do is outdoors. Does anyone know if this "muted" look is because the camera is in progressive mode? Would you recommend this camera for outdoor use?

Thank you.

Boy, did you get a bum steer.  Absolutely the most beautiful colors indoors or out.  You need to quit reading/listening to the source who gave you that info.

To say this camera kicks ass is being modest. Everytime I go and shoot I am amazed.

Re: Shooting outdoors.

your colors can get a bit washed out when your outside, but thats true for ANY type of camera, and your eyes too. its just hard for anything to deal with the huge exposure range present in hard sunlit days. best things to have on hand for you are a host of nd filters.. plain and graduated, and of course a nice rotaeable polarizing lense will keep you colors saturated, and even buy you a bit more lattitude with some highlights somtimes. cause it cuts out the glare dramatically. but theres nothing wrong about how the dvx handles being outdoors, just take a look at the frame grabs done outside in the frame grab section.

Thank you all for your advice. I'm sold.

I definitely want the "Kick Ass" DVX100A.

One INDOOR question:

My wife is pushing me to buy the Sony PD170. She is under the impression that the final product will be better when I shoot her godson's birthday (indoor low light).
The Sony has 1 lux. Any opinion on how this compares to the DVX100A 3 lux? I don't think it's a big difference.
