Shooting News with the AF101

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to share this with you.

I managed to convince my client to move to using the AF' for shooting a news piece.

In place of a traditional 2/3rds inch camera, I was taking a few risks but the piece was fairly conventional so I thought we'd try it.

Seemed to work out OK I guess. This was shot, edited and uploaded for syndication to the news agencies all in one (long) day.

Crucial to this was the SD workflow rather than tape as well as being able to use FCP 7 rather than the FCP X I'm learning at the moment (but that's another story!)

Great work. I thought the impact often af100 was subtle and really added to the piece.

What lenses did you use and would you consider lighting your interviews (maybe even just a reflector to supplement the available light?)

How many people from your team were on location?

My go to lens is the Tamron 17-55 f2.8 and I also used the Sigma 50mm f1.4 as well as a Tokina 12-24 f4 in the projection booth. It was very tight in there!

We were shooting most of the day and running around trying to pin people down for interviews. I could have used a reflector, but it was just me and a producer/journo. No time and no hands!

Now everyone thinks Wakefiled is a centre of culture - next thing you know, respected playwrights like John Godber will be setting up shop there. Oh. Very nice package, I think the AF is a great camera for this sort of crafted news work - I've noticed more and more 5D work creeping in, especially on Sky News, and I think that although it's almost always well done, it does jar a little. The M43 sensor really adds a sense of beauty and time well spent to news without standing out too much from the ENG packages. well done :)
