shooting native

I'm not clear on native HD. What are the pros/cons of shooting in this format? I'd like to save some drive space, so the added recording time is attractive. Most everything I'll shoot will air in SD.
Are there any NLEs that can't work with native HD?

Native - shooting in 720/24pN, 720/25pN or 720/30pN modes. The camera only records active frames, whatever that means. It doubles the amount of HD video you can record onto a P2 card, which I like, since I only have 2 cards.
I just wanted to know of any drawbacks to shooting in these modes.

Avid is perfectly find with native modes - I use them all the time.

no drawbacks as long as your workflow can handle it

I have a big client that edits on a new media composer on a PC, and they can't handle the native frame rates. Also, for some reason, they can't get the first audio track. Strange, I know.

that is certainly their issue and not an issue with Avid - avid handles native and 4 tracks of audio perfectly.

You can't stream it live over firewire. But you can transfer it from the card in the camera through firewire. Of course, if you're on Windows, you should do it through USB -- but if you're on a Mac, the preferred way is through firewire.

However, if you stream 720/24P (non-Native) over firewire live into Avid, Avid recognizes it as 23.976 and captures it that way, stripping out the duplicate frames automatically.
