I'm about to shoot my first music video at the end of September. They want a final product in BETA format with closed capitioning for CMT.
I'm going to be using a Panasonic HPX170 to shoot. A few questions:
1) I'm assuming 30PN is the way to shoot for a TV format, I'll get the most possible recording time. However, shooting this way I lose audio if I decide to shoot a bit at 48FPS and slow down to normal speed in post. Any tips for lining up the audio when there is none? I figure 1/60 is a good standard shutter speed for the video, then maybe a bit higher for things like drumsticks flailing, etc?
2) Is it better to shoot with some type of CINELIKE Gamma, Cine-D or Cine-V, or is it better to use something that allows for less contrast and less noise, then adjust my contrast and colours in post more? What should I should to get the maximum allowable resolution with the cleanest image, with the most flexibility in post?
3) The coverage of the band actually playing doesn't come in except close to the end of the song. I figure I'll do a few takes of just the lead lady singing the whole song, then a few Glidecam shots of the whole band for the whole song , then just a single or two of each artist playing their instrucments starting halfway in the song, to be used near the end of the video.
I'm also just generally looking for tips and advice for shooting a music video. I'm planning as much as I can, but realize that I have a lot on my plate for a first music video/directorial debut. Any war stories or advice would be extremely appreciated.
Cheers.
